Chocolate Garden at the Ideal Home Show

In 2010 I built the world’s first chocolate garden at the Ideal Home Show. I wanted to show people how much plants influence our lives – chocolate comes from a plant, after all!

Did you know that when you open up a ripe, purple cocoa pods, the cocoa beans inside are a deep purple colour – the exact colour of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk wrappers!

The Chocolate Garden took a team of eight people, including professional chocolatiers, to build. We were molding, sculpting, spraying and painting melted milk chocolate for three weeks! Some structures are solid chocolate, and others have a wire frame for support.

We had great fun making gravel out of chocolate chips and edging from bars too!

My bling-inspired Ace of Diamonds garden for Chelsea Flower Show came with its own security! It was part of my (as yet unfinished) Smoking Aces series. I have done ace of spades and still have clubs and hearts to go.

The garden featured gems, crystals, and diamond-studded jewellery in bell jars worth a total of £20 million! Some took pride of place, and others were hidden among the beds. Even the patio was a diamond shape!

At the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2009, I created an Underwater Garden. It featured five tanks filled with tropical plants from all over the world. One of them was based on the Amazon river in South America, the largest river in the world and home, of course, to piranhas!

Other tanks included African and Asian plants and fish!

But the highlight of my Chelsea display was the piranhas! Did you know a pack of them can rip the flesh from a full-sized cow in two and a half minutes! Needless to say, HM the Queen loved the garden! Who wouldn’t?
