January newsletter: The start of something new
Hi,
Welcome to 2023, another New Year is here, so let’s embrace this time and use it as an opportunity to try a new challenge in the garden. These top ten plants for January gardens are sure to brighten up winter mornings. Or if there’s a narrow, shaded spot in your garden, fill it with these plants that fit the purpose.
Now the festive period is over, there may be a corner of your home that looks a bit bare. Replace the Christmas tree with these houseplants that will offer structure and greenery to your home all year round.
Sticking with the beauty of houseplants, it’s #HouseplantWeekUK from 9th-15th January. This is a time to celebrate houseplants and look at the best of indoor gardening. Whether you’re a greenfingered indoor gardener or want to get started, keep an eye out on my website and social media for tips and giveaways to keep your houseplants growing happily.
If you’re deciding a grow something new this year, give yourself some new year’s resolutions, or want a challenge for 2023, there is plenty of inspiration on my website. Get growing a variety of vegetables and plan your planting with my printable vegetable calendar.
There’s plenty to look forward to in 2023, and I hope you’ll continue to join me in my garden as we step into another growing season. For more behind the scenes of my garden, take a look at my YouTube channel.
Happy gardening!

Gardening tip of the month
Keeping your tools in good condition is important so you can continue to use them year after year.
Get rid of layers of dirt by washing tools with warm, soapy water. Using a stiff brush can help to knock off any mud. Rub with a wire brush in a circular motion.
Cutting blade can become blunt after heavy use. Apply WD40 to tools like secateurs, shears, and hoes before sharpening them.
For contaminated plots or plants, take extra care by using Jeyes fluid or Citrox as a disinfectant, then rinse well and follow the instructions on the packet.
Once you’re done with cleaning, hang tools up rather than leaving them on the floor. Or pop them in sand head first to keep them clean and remain dry.
