QHow can I stop a squirrel from digging in my pots and disturbing the bulbs?
Mavis
AI know how you feel! The cheeky blighters. My top tip is to grate a little smelly soap into the hole as you plant the bulbs, and then sprinkle a bit on the surface too.
The smellier the soap, the better! You can even use the free packets you get in hotels. That will deter the squirrel.
If you have a serious problem with them, you can also bury a little chicken wire just under the surface of the soil. It will block out the squirrels and the bulb will grow through it.
Here’s how to plant spring-flowering bulbs for the best displays, and my pick of the top 8 varieties of spring flowering bulb.
is there any way to speed up my lead mould pile into compost? Thanks
You should shred thick leaves like sycamore and horse chestnut, as well as any evergreen leaves you use. Make sure to keep the pile moist, and remember that the larger the pile, the faster they will break down. However, you will probably need two years to make good leaf mould. David.
Since I feed the squirrels with plenty of peanuts and nuts , not one of my flowers bulbs has been dug up since it is much easier for them to go to their special feeder.
