In 2009, I started my Aces series with the Ace of Spades Garden. I’ve also done Ace of Diamonds, and I’ve yet to do hearts and clubs.

This was inspired by the Ace of Spades biker anthem by Motorhead. The garden is wild and raw, and captures the chaotic freedom of the biker life.

The central pit is in the shape of a playing card spade and is decorated with airbrush artwork. There is also a large Ace of Spades made from old garden spades welded together.

The garden features many biker references, including planting in tyres, oil drums and bike parts.

I used dark plants in blacks, reds and purples such as black bamboo, black irises and black grasses. There we also silver varieties of plants to echo the chrome of the bike.

My bling-inspired Ace of Diamonds garden for Chelsea Flower Show came with its own security! It was part of my (as yet unfinished) Smoking Aces series. I have done ace of spades and still have clubs and hearts to go.

The garden featured gems, crystals, and diamond-studded jewellery in bell jars worth a total of £20 million! Some took pride of place, and others were hidden among the beds. Even the patio was a diamond shape!

At the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2009, I created an Underwater Garden. It featured five tanks filled with tropical plants from all over the world. One of them was based on the Amazon river in South America, the largest river in the world and home, of course, to piranhas!

Other tanks included African and Asian plants and fish!

But the highlight of my Chelsea display was the piranhas! Did you know a pack of them can rip the flesh from a full-sized cow in two and a half minutes! Needless to say, HM the Queen loved the garden! Who wouldn’t?
